RAIL

Humanicks consultants have a broad range of experience in over ground and sub-surface rail. Our consultants provided the Human Factors input to major network upgrades in signalling and rolling stock in the UK, and also on international projects in Australia and Denmark.

Our capabilities range from small task based technical work right through to provision of the Human Factors Delivery Manager for larger packages of work.

Having worked for many years alongside suppliers and regulators Humanicks staff are acutely aware of the emphasis on safety for their passengers and staff. Even as the rail business becomes more automated (e.g. European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS)) the humans are still crucial in assuring a safe system, either at the point of delivery or embedded in the safety systems themselves.

Our focus is threefold; maximise safety, improve efficiency, and optimise human performance.

Our consultants have worked on:

  • Banedanmark - European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Level 2 upgrade

  • Banedanmark - Possession procedures with IT support

  • High Speed 2 - Control room design

  • Transport for London - Step free access

  • Transport for London - Cooling the Tube

  • Bombardier - Passenger density calculations for brake calculations

  • RailCorp, Sydney - Risk Based Training Needs Analysis for drivers and signallers

  • RailCorp, Sydney - Training Needs Analysis for users of Automatic Train Protection

  • Yarra Trams, Melbourne - Risk assessment for Tram terminals

  • Traction Brake controller design
